Threading tools play a valuable function in a variety of machining, manufacturing and other applications. Superior threading tools are crafted from select micro-grain carbide and are CNC ground for quality and consistency.

The premium thread mills are made from carbide using a tin exterior to protect them for a maximum tool life and cutting speeds. Thread mills are useful since they can assist you to thread a variety hole diameters using only one tool. Using the helical fule model enables for smoother, faultless cuts and extended tool life. A reputable supplier will furnish programming and tech support and present custom designs to suit your specific needs. Superior thread mills create threads with the accuracy, dimension and high finish to consistently achieve tight fits.

To generate internal threads, it?s critical to drill the minor thread diameter to the precise size. Then, place the thread mill to the predetermined depth. Subsequently, mill either the ‘X’ or ‘Y’ axis to the needed thread pitch diameter. Because of the little dimensions and with hard to cut material, it may be necessary to remove the material in several passes. It is always best to “arc-in” and “arc-out” when thread milling. Any “arc-in” and “arc-out” movements require have a matching ‘Z’-axis movement amidst the ‘X-Y’ circular moves. As an example, if the “arc-in” is greater than 90 degrees, the ‘Z’-axis ending point must be 1/4 of the thread pitch. (90 degrees is 1/4 of a circle). A right-hand thread is generated by going around in a counterclockwise motions while making the ‘Z’-axis up one pitch for every 360 degrees.

A left-hand thread is made by encircling in a clockwise motion along with shifting the ‘Z’ axis up one pitch per 360 degrees. The complete series of actions can be accomplished by inserting in a descending course and reverting the revolution course.

External threads require the major diameter milled to size before the thread mill is implemented. Right-hand threads are made by moving up and in a counterclockwise direction. Similar threads are able to be cut by moving down and switching the orbit route.

NPT threads are most often made at the same time moving the tool in a downward direction. Because these tools are crest cutting, it is not absolutely required to ream the internal minor diameter or mill the external diameter to size. Still, it is extremely recommended to do so as the tools will have a lesser amount material to remove. If the tool is to be used in an upward direction, spiral movement is required.
